1) The purpose of Membership?

The objective of membership is to promote human language technology development and language research by providing our members as many free, preferential resources and services as possible. The membership is open to any organization, public or private around the world.

2) The benefit of being a member?

After becoming a member, the following rights can be enjoyed:
           a) Free acess of all the databases from the Member Zone within the Membership year.
           b) Preferential price when choosing databases outside of the Member Zone.
           c) Preferential cost for entrusted/tailored services such as data collecting, post processing, technical assisting and testing.

3) Types and cost of membership?

There are two ways to become a member and receive research data from Speechocean:
a) Annual Paying Membership: by paying the membership fee, individual and organization can obtain this annual membership. The Annual fees of this membership is USD5000 and it will be valid within 12 months from the date of paying.
b) Sharing/Donation Membership: Speechocean encourages database sharing and efficient use of language resources. There is also another way to become a member like share or done databases to Speechocean. In such case, the provider will deliver the databases with all documents to Speechocean, Speechocean will evaluate the databases and feedback the result within 3 working days from the receiving date. If the databases is accepted by Speechocean, the provider will be granted an annual membership for 12 months from the date of sharing. During this membership year, the member can get all databases from the Member Zone freely for its research in return. Speechocean will get all the rights to license the database to any others without any compensation to the provider.

Members are entitled to one copy of all databases in Member zone freely. Databases depending on their size ,will be distributed via ftp downloads. In case of media files (typically CD/DVD) mailing the additional postage will be collected.

4) What is a Membership Year (MY)?

The Membership Year will be calculated based on 12 months from the joining date of membership. Once you become a member, you may exercise membership rights at any time in the following 12 months.
Membership Year fees can also be paid in advance.

5) Become a Speechocean Member?

To become a member, organizations should (1) contact us through the following contacting information, (2) sign the appropriate membership agreement and (3) pay the membership fee.

Upon receiving your inquiry, we will respond to you within 48 hours by email. Please check your “sent messages” to ensure that your email was sent. If you do not receive a response within 48 hours, please contact us by phone +86 (10) 5873 2559, +86 (136) 81432590.

           (2) Sign the membership agreement
The membership agreement must be signed by someone who is legally empowered to commit your organization to observing the terms of the membership agreement. Please check with your department or legal office to determine who should sign.

If you would like a co-signed copy of the agreement returned to you, please send two copies of the membership agreement.

6) How to access the Speechocean database?

There are two ways to access resources from Speechocean:
1) Free corpora request for members
The member, based on membership levels, can choose the free corpora any time within its membership year from the Member Zone. It is also possible to choose any preferential corpora beyond the Member Zone.

2) Fee corpora request for Data sharing members
Data sharing members can also get corresponding specific data resources from Speechocean. All intellectual property and quality assurance will be estimated by Speechocean in advance.
Members should request the desired corpora via the following email, phone or fax and specify the preferred ways for data shipping:

Speechocean can provide the data by FTP or by post depending on member preference:
          For on-line FTP data downloading, Speechocean will send access information by email..
          If post mail is preferred, when requesting the data the member should provide a full shipping address with personal contact information and an additional Postage will be collected.

When inquiring about membership, please identify an organization (if any) and a contact person and email. An email will be sent when new data sets will be available.

7) How to cite Speechocean corpora in a bibliography?

For citing electronic resources, Speechocean suggests the following format:
